Federal Statute Does Not Bar Internet Poker




In a recent interpretation by the Justice Department of the Wire Act of 1961 involving the prohibition of wagers via telecommunications crossing state lines or international borders, it found that the said prohibition only refers to bets on a "sporting event or content." It excluded lottery tickets sold online and online poker.
