Federal Statute Does Not Bar Internet Poker
In a recent interpretation by the Justice Department of the Wire Act of 1961 involving the prohibition of wagers via telecommunications crossing state lines or international borders, it found that the said prohibition only refers to bets on a "sporting event or content." It excluded lottery tickets sold online and online poker.

The implication of this is that it may pave the way for online lotteries and poker to become legal in the United States which is currently banned in the United States.
